The LCFTRA provides unique opportunities for our youth to get outdoors (all float building happens outside) and work with their hands. There are opportunities to learn new skills at all age and ability levels for teenagers.

Support Community.

The La Cañada Flintridge float in the Rose Parade tells the world about our great city! (Over 70 million viewers worldwide with 700,000 in person). Building and decorating the float offers many unique opportunities for meeting friends and neighbors and having fun learning new skills together. Over a thousand families and individuals from youth and other groups come together each year to decorate the float as a way to see in the new year. 

Make Friends.

Many life-long friendships have been made among the volunteers in LCFTRA.  Many new friendships begin every year.  Even marriages have sprung among those who met working on the floats.  As a member, you will have access to the directory of members.  Working together is a great way to build your personal community!

 Learn New Skills.

It is not just youth who are learning new things while constructing and decorating a float. From learning to work with exotic flowers and seeds to welding, painting, shaping characters, and hundreds of other hands-on activities, there are opportunities for all skill levels to have fun. And if you don't know how to do something - we'll teach you and have fun doing it. Or, help with events and other administrative tasks. It takes a team and all kinds of skills to build a float!

 Have Fun.

As a member, you will get to play with the biggest toy in town!  You will be doing it alongside some of the most fun and interesting "toymakers" around. Whether you are helping to plan an event or welding a part of the float, you will meet great people in a relaxed and happy place.  Of course, you can also be a "silent" member who has the fun of knowing that you are supporting a great cause (after all, nothing would happen without funds).  Our members get to choose the level of involvement the they want and there are no requirements for hours spent.

Reduce Your Taxes.

The La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association is a 501(c)(3) organization and your membership donation is tax deductible (of course, we are not accountants and so you will need to ultimately check with your accountant or other authority to verify your personal situation for deductibility). But we can assure you that 100% of your membership donation goes into building the float and related activities. We have no paid staff. All of our labor is donated (as well as some of our materials).
